Magic of Microchips

Updated: Nov 16, 2019

What are microchips?

Tiny, cylindrical objects that are injected under the skin between the shoulder blades that can be scanned to provide a code that corresponds with an owner's contact information.

Microchip Facts

  • 73% of pets with microchips were found

  • Pets are 2.5x more likely to be found

  • Minimal/rare complications/side effects

  • Cheap, one-time registration/implantation fee

Microchip Myths

  • They can be used to track your animal on a map via GPS. GPS tracking technology for pets does exist, but is not related to their ID microchip.

  • My pet doesn't need to wear a collar if they are microchipped. Microchips are the last line of defense, collars with tags (ID & rabies) are the best way to ensure the return of a lost pet.

Over 10 million pets are lost in the United States each year, and one in three pets will become lost in their lifetime. Improve your chances of being reunited with your pet by making sure they are microchipped! Talk with your vet about microchipping today!
