The FDA is currently investigating a link between heart disease in dogs, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and grain-free dog foods. This disease is likely caused by a variety of factors, and although it hasn't been proven that these brands cause disease, it is probably best to avoid them until more information is available. The chart above, along with additional information was released June 27, 2019. We will continue to follow this issue closely and provide updates as they are available.
What should you do if your dog's food is on this list? Schedule a checkup with your veterinarian for a physical exam so your dog's heart can be evaluated. Until we know more about this issue, it may be best to choose a brand not on this list, or at least choose one of their non-grain-free formulations.
