Fit Or Fat? Figure it out here.

Updated: Nov 15, 2019

Approximately 60% of cats and dogs are overweight or obese!

This disease is often overlooked and/or misunderstood, plus its a major added expense! Extra fat leads to heart, metabolic, and skin disease, arthritis, cancer, breathing disorders, organ dysfunction, increased surgical and anesthetic risks, and reduced length and quality of life. The good news is that weight loss can reverse or reduce disease, and its easier than you think.

Step 1: How Does Your Pet Measure Up?

Your pet should look like a lean athlete, not a couch potato or bag of bones.

Step 2: Is Your Pet Overweight or Underweight?

Most commonly, we need to simply adjust our pet's diet and/or exercise routines, but it is best to first consult with your veterinarian to rule out serious medical issues that can cause an abnormal body condition score (BCS).

Step 3: Adjust Portion

A recent study showed that even when we use a measuring cup to portion our pet’s food, we are terribly inaccurate, especially with our small dogs, so it’s highly recommended to use a kitchen scale or the Portion Pro Rx to measure meals and snacks. If your pet is overweight or underweight, reduce or increase the meal accordingly by approx 10-15%.

Step 4: Recheck Weight

Recheck with your vet every 3 weeks to monitor weight changes and to get guidance for recommended adjustments.

Step 5: Celebrate Your Pet's Healthy Weight!

Enjoy your pet's favorite activity with them, treat them with a low calorie snack, and tag us in your pet's transformation photos on social media (@healthypetsinfo) so we can congratulate you and your pet for putting so much effort into their health and happiness!
